Lora Jean White, 77, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Born January 11, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Lincoln and Gertrude (Welch) Smalley. She was a graduate of Whitmer High School. Lora worked for and retired from the Washington Local Schools. During her time in the school district shewas a bus driver, cafeteria worker, custodian and retired as a Fireman/Boiler Operator. Among Lora’s many experiences, she was the first woman mechanic for the Sears corporation, she played Women’s Professional Football for the Toledo Troopers from 1972-1974, she was the President of OAPSE #4, AFSCME (Teachers and School workers union) Local #317 and President of the Mother’s Club at Northwood/Greenwood Elementary school. She was very active and enjoyed, football, baseball, softball and volleyball. Lora had many talents, she was an artist who loved to paint and write poetry. She enjoyed working with her hands, taking much pleasure in wood working, wall papering, home restoration and building. Lora’s biggest pleasure in life was spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the lake where they would enjoy, water skiing, tubing, fishing, swimming and just lounging around the fire at night. Surviving are her loving children, James Lincoln (Sarah) White and Lori (David) Kidd; She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, James Frederick White; sister, Linda Wagner; brother, Robert Smalley. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm, Friday, September 7, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am. |
